No More © 1997 by Izolda Trakhtenberg

I originally wrote this song while thinking about the war in Bosnia and the horrors of war in general. It was one old woman's view and yet it is as relevant today and for as long as people believe that war "needs" to be waged.

    No More

The old woman watches as her grandsons prepare
They strap on their guns and yell oaths in the air
She remembers the youngest when he learned to crawl
The smile lit his face when he first stood tall

No More, No More, No More, No More

"It's all for our god," they cry, "All for his glory.
I'll be a hero, be hailed in grand story.
I'll win back this land for my god and my people"
"Will they live?" she thinks as she sits in her hovel

      Chorus

A tear descends down the cracks of her face
She thinks of those dreams that have died in this place
She asks of the ghosts that walk here in the night
Would I still be a grandmother if all of them died?

      Chorus
