Izolda, together with The Ladies Diana, bring to the stage an incredible string band capable of producing sounds and colors that take the listener on journey after journey as their show unfolds. A refreshing mix of favorite oldies coupled with well-crafted originals and experienced musicianship. These ladies love each other and their music, and it comes through differently every time you hear them. Bravo for Folk Nouveau!
-Francis Buckingham, Year of the Rabbit Coffee Pub

Folk Nouveau music combines the story-telling and instrumentation elements of folk music and the reverence for nature of the Art Nouveau movement with melodic influences that span the Earth. It is an earth-centered fusion of jazz, classical, folk, Eastern European and Middle-Eastern influences.

Formed in 2002, the band brings their vibrant, inviting and magical sound to Washington DC area clubs, festivals, and events. Each member of Izolda and Folk Nouveau is a multi-instrumentalist. Izolda is a vocalist and she plays guitar, violin/fiddle, Native American flute, and percussion. Diana McFadden is a classically-trained cellist who also plays, guitar, mandolin, and cittern. And Diana Sunday is a vocalist, guitarist and percussionist. The newest sometime member of the band, David Landis plays flutes, whistles, and percussion. The members of the band often change instruments during their sets to give a well-rounded and unique sound that includes innovative instrumentation and intricate and beautiful harmonies. The band has a wide range of styles and instruments to choose from in order to create just the right kind of magical sound for the atmosphere in which they play.

They bring this instrumentation and a vibrant energy to their live shows. They also, perform some innovative arrangements of cover tunes where they get the audience involved and singing. As Izolda is a vocal instructor, it is always her pleasure to inspire people to sing.

In addition to original songs that encompass the worlds of art, culture, the earth, and a reverence for nature, they also play many favorites from the pop, traditional, jazz, and folk worlds.
