Try Again © 2000 by Izolda Trakhtenberg

This song is the first to be born while I was playing the guitar. (Normally, I write the lyrics first and then try to come up with a melody and then perhaps even a guitar part.) I was trying out the DADGAD tuning and started strumming and the first two verses just jumped out of my mouth.

I wish to dedicate this song to the people out there who suffer from depression and yet still get up every day and live their lives and especially to those who have their own rebirth and find the joy that comes from the beauty of every day things.

      Walked out to the ocean
      Toward the murky deep
      Worked out an escape plan
      Cried myself to sleep

      Spent days chasing rainbows
They were sunlight through my tears
      Nightmares gathered round me
      Witness to the years

      Friendships long forgotten
      Washed up on my shore
      Pacts we'd made together
      To be friends forever more

      The secrets and the diaries
      Blown away like desert sand
      Memories urged my actions
      Desperation forced my hand

I longed for peace of everlasting kind
And I thought I'd missed my chance
The wheel turned round and the day grew dim
        And I couldn't try again

But then I saw the ocean
and the blue, blue of the sky
As I walked in sea foam
      I heard the Lady sigh

      "The calling of the seabirds
And the crashing of the waves
These are where your peace lies,"
Was the sage advice she gave

      Touch of moonlight
And the dancing of the leaves
      Washed my inner turmoil
      With new promise to believe

      Tranquil thoughts and wild-eyed girls
      Living in the quiet earth
In sunlit shores and forests deep
      I'd found my own rebirth

I longed for peace of everlasting kind
And I thought I'd missed my chance
The wheel turned round and I faced the sun
And I knew I'd try again
