Animal Rights and Welfare
Some tips on what to do if you suspect animal neglect or cruelty
If you are in a situation where you think that an animal is being mistreated,
I got some really great advice from Leslie at ALDF.
-
First, call the animal control office for your county. The number is either
in the phone book under county government or it's available from Information.
Tell the officer that you believe an animal is being mistreated and explain
the situation.
-
Another way to get the officer to take a look into the problem is to ask
whether or not the County has a rabies vaccination certificate for that
animal. Since that is a big law in most places in the US, if not the world,
that is a way to get Animal Control to investigate.
-
Another thing you can do is go around the house and take a camera with
you. Take photos of the animal and of the environment in which s/he is
being kept. You can send those photos to the County government or to the
Animal Control Office or both.
Also, here are some links to animal rights/welfare organizations.
