Ariadne

The first night I got my kitty, Ariadne, we actually named her Sasha. Her adventures that first evening changed her name (or actually, she was probably just trying to tell us what her real name is). We had brought her home form the humane society and put her little four-week-old self in the kitchen to keep the other cats from eating her alive and allow them all to get acclimated to one another. We hung around on the front porch with some friends for a bit and went in to find that the little black thing was nowhere to be found. After tearing up the house, albeit carefully, (because she was only four ounces and all black) we finally gave up and I crashed on the bed and cried my heart out because I thought my new little baby was gone. Once I had finally calmed down enough to try and get some sleep, the house got quiet and we heard a soft and earnest "mew."

"Where did that come from?"

"I think it came from the kitchen."

We went into the kitchen and searched, yet again. She kept mewing at us and finally, we realized that her mews were coming from the wall. She had found a hole in the wall behind the sink fixture and crawled right into the base of the house. We pulled the entire sink fixture away from the wall and pulled out the dustiest furball you've ever seen. She came out completely gray! That night I realized that her "harrowing" experience with her own labyrinth necessitated her name change to Ariadne.

Hmm, "Ariadne," I thought. She's from Greek mythology, hmm...

She's had lots of adventures since then. One in particular comes to mind about the time she decided that jumping out of the fourth floor window sounded like a fun thing to do. (She broke a toe and bloodied her nose, but otherwise she was just fine, if a little indignant.) She's an incredible cat, and she especially loves tarot readings.

Ariadne has an extraordinary spirit and she loves without being oppressive or aloof. I've watched her grow into a racy, cuddly, adventurous (she loves hot salsa and wasabi among her other vices) cat. She's going to be ten in April and I thank the Goddess every time I stand in front of my altar for her and my other three animal family members.

Here is another shot of her sleeping among the leaves.

And here's Ariadne and Rich up in the loft in our old place. She used to love to climb the ladder all the way up and then hang out there lazing around.
