Workin' Harmony Workshops

Find the Connection between your voice and the voices of others in this Discovery Singing Workshop
Created and taught by Izolda Trakhtenberg

See what others are saying: Workshop/Class Reviews

The voice, being our first instrument, has the greatest physical, emotional and spiritual connection to our body. Throughout the ages, people have used song both to express themselves and to connect with others. Yet, usually we sing without first establishing the crucial connection between breath, body, and voice. Or perhaps we are afraid to sing because we fear that we cannot sing.

Using physical and vocal exercises and techniques, and focusing tools, this workshop will concentrate on connecting the body to the breath, the breath to the voice, the voice to the song and the song to the others who sing with you.

We will also increase participants' comfort level with vocalizing, increase the ability to focus on individual tasks while working within a group and develop some listening skills to aid in feeling joyful about singing and communicating with others. One of the best outcomes of this workshops occurs when participants who have never known each other in light of something so vital and personal begin to see in each other kindred spirits in song. They leave this workshop with the knowledge that together, working as a team, they created something special and unique.

In this workshop, participants learn:

  • Physical warm-up exercises and their importance
  • Vocal warm-up exercises designed to:
    • Open the singing passages
    • Unblock resonators
    • Free the voice
  • Increase confidence in singing both individually and within a group. Note: this yields many rewards when establishing a new team as participants work together to create a harmonious and melodious sound. This has been found to instill a sense of camaraderie in the participants.
  • Good mechanics to prevent strain
  • Techniques to strengthen vocal power
  • Proper breathing techniques
  • Pitch matching
  • Vocal communication
  • Caring for your voice
  • Put techniques into practice by learning and singing songs.
  • Build Harmonious Working atmosphere through song and singing
  • Develop listening skills using new communication pathways while utilizing the singing voice
  • Increase focusing skills and skills designed to engage the desire to accomplish tasks while enjoying the process
  • Increase desire to work together to create and achieve goals
