The
voice, being our first instrument, has the greatest physical, emotional
and spiritual connection to our body. Throughout the ages, people have
used song both to express themselves and to connect with others.
Yet, usually we sing without first establishing the crucial connection
between breath, body, and voice. Or perhaps we are afraid to sing because
we fear that we cannot sing.
Using
physical and vocal exercises and techniques, and focusing tools, this workshop
will concentrate on connecting the body to the breath, the breath to the
voice, the voice to the song and the song to the others who sing with you.
We will also
increase participants' comfort level with vocalizing, increase the ability to focus on individual tasks while working within a group and develop some
listening skills to aid in feeling joyful about singing and communicating with others. One of the best outcomes of this workshops occurs when participants who have never known each other in light of something so vital and personal begin to see in each other kindred spirits in song. They leave this workshop with the knowledge that together, working as a team, they created something special and unique.
